A new report has a bit of detail on the reaction to the recent WWE ID departures and a note on a title change that was planned at one point. As noted, Laynie Luck and Marcus Mathers announced this week that their ID contracts had come to an end.
Fightful Select reports that at least five wrestlers from the recent WWE tryouts were offered ID contracts but none were offered full signings. With Luck and Mathers’ deals ending, several WWE talent suggested that they question the whole system when a major independent star like Mathers and the 11-month WWE ID Women’s Champion weren’t renewed.
The report also notes that there were plans at one point for Luck to lose her title to someone other than Monica Monroe, who captured the title this week and ended Luck’s reign at 320 days. Sources in WWE said that at one point, Brooke Havok was planned to win the title from Luck. However, she suffered an ACL tear that means she’s out of action, potentially for the next year. There’s no word on whether she ended up signing a WWE ID deal.
Luck’s loss to Monroe ended up being the first-ever defense of the title, as Luck won it after Kylie Rae vacated it due to her pregnancy.
