During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Zack Heydorn, AEW star Ricochet was asked about the recent tribute shows to late former AEW wrestlers Benjamin Satterley, aka PAC, and Andy Williams, aka The Butcher. Ricochet explained how the shows were bittersweet, but noted that the AEW roster puts aside their egos to make the best show possible. Below are some highlights:
Ricochet on AEW’s Tribute Shows for Andy Williams & Benjamin Satterley, AEW’s Wrestlers Putting Side Their Egos
“Honestly, I think it’s kind of, you know, bittersweet, but at the same time, like we have such a good locker room right now. And honestly, since I’ve gotten there in 2024, I think it was like August 2024 when I when I got there, it’s been awesome. It just reminds me of like, back in the day on the indies when we would all travel and everyone was just there to like help the show be great. You know, obviously, everyone has their egos, everyone has their personalities, everyone has their, you know, attitudes, whatever you want to say, but at the end of the day, I think 97% of who we got in our locker room, I think everyone wants to make AEW the best, the biggest that it can be. And I think for the most part, most people, and despite what you may hear on the dirt sheets or whatever, for the most part, people put away their egos for the better of the story.
“And I think, and then now especially like these past three months, like sometimes we’ve had to put the story aside to kind of show tribute to, you know, those who helped make the locker room so good. But for the most part, yeah, it’s been great, and everyone kind of knows what their job is, and they know, you know, today’s not bout me; today is about you, but today is not about you; today is about me. Today’s about the group, or today’s about whatever. So, I think things like that, I think it’s only going, you know, in the right direction, and I feel like the past two years since I’ve been there, a little over two years now, it’s just gotten better and better, and I feel like the product has shown that as well.”
On His Match With Will Ospreay for the Dynamite Tribute Show for PAC
“Honestly, the match kind of helps you the match helps the day go by because without being able to without having to think about like your match like you’re stuck thinking about, you know, sad times basically. So, at least for me specifically like having to having something that I could put my mind towards and kind of, you know, not turn off my emotions, but you have to focus on this otherwise you could get hurt. But having something like that to focus on for the day, I think kind of helped. But at the same time, like you said, like I think especially with Osprey and myself, as much as I hate him. No, no, with our stuff. I think again, Ben — PAC, he was so integral in both of our careers that — and we’ve been around him, and we’ve wrestled him so many times that we kind of already had in our mind what we knew how we were going to go about it, and we knew what we were going to do. And the hardest part was going to be to just go out there and do it.
“But because it’s funny, it’s I was telling this to some of the guys. It’s kind of criminal how quickly he and I got all that together. Like, oh, it’s kind of criminal how quickly he and I were like, ‘Oh, yeah, okay. Well, I guess that’s it. I’ll see you later.’ You know, because again, we worked so well together, and again, we just knew Ben so well. And yeah, it was just going out there, and you know, putting on for the people who we knew were going to be able who were going to be there and and appreciate it and things like that. So, yeah, being able to have the match actually kind of helped the day go by a little smoother, as sad as it was. It was a very sad day.”
Ricochet last wrestled at AEW WrestleDream, competing in the Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Title. Will Ospreay was victorious in the bout to retain his belt.
