Sami Zayn is at last a World champion, capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of WWE Night of Champions on Saturday. Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a triple threat match at today’s PLE, winning the match in front of a supportive Saudi Arabia crowd to capture the title that has eluded him for years.

Rhodes and Zayn both prevented pinfalls on Gunther at various points by pulling the referee out of the ring, which led to the two battling tooth and nail. Zayn and Rhodes ended up on the announce table, where Zayn went for the package piledriver. However, Rhodes escaped it and backdropped Zayn through the other commentary table.

That took Zayn out of the match and Gunther immediately took advantage, powerbombing Rhodes twice into the other announce table. Gunther rolled Rhodes in and locked in the sleeper. Rhodes nearly tapped out but managed to get to his feet, dropping Gunther on his back. But Gunther reapplied the sleeper and Rhodes nearly passed out before Zayn blocked Rhodes’ arm from falling. Gunther went on the attack but Zayn hit an Exploder suplex, then a Helluva Kick for a nearfall.

Rhodes eventually came back in the match hit a double Cross Rhodes, but Zayn reversed a second Cross Rhodes into a rollup to win the title.

You can see clips from the match below. This marks Zayn’s first run with the Undisputed WWE Championship, and ends Rhodes’ reign at 113 days. He won the title from Drew McIntyre on the March 6th episode of WWE Smackdown.
