Shota Umino Retains IWGP Global Heavyweight Title Against PAC At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door

Shota Umino answered PAC’s challenge at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door and walked away with his IWGP Global Heavyweight Title reign intact. Umino put his title on the line against the Death Rider at Sunday’s PPV, a match that had been set up after Gabe Kidd attacked Umino at PAC’s request and PAC issued the challenge soon after.

The 18 minute match saw Umino and PAC get the crowd behind them with a number of high spots. PAC was in control late in the match and locked in a Brutalizer, which Umino struggled to get out of at first. He eventually managed to escape and dodged a top rope dive from gthe challenger before hitting a rolling elbow, headbutt and running knee strike. PAC came back with a Poisonrana, and thrust kick, but he got laid out with a lariat. The Paradigm Shift and Second Chapter sealed the win and title retention.

After the match, Jon Moxley came down with Marina Shafir and got in Umino’s face. However, NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi came down and Moxley backed off. You can see clips from the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door match below.

Umino’s title reign is up to 15 days, having won it from Andrade El Ídolo at the NJPW Dominion tour stop on June 14th.
