As noted previously, Tommy Dreamer announced his departure from TNA Wrestling this week.
Apart from being a talent relations executive and a backstage producer, Dreamer was also head of creative. During his announcement on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer revealed that he had a conversation with TNA President Carlos Silva, and both parties mutually agreed to part ways.
Following that, Fightful Select reported that former WWE SmackDown lead writer Brian James, i.e., Road Dogg, has been discussed to replace Tommy Dreamer. In this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), Dave Meltzer shared his thoughts on the evolving situation.
Meltzer wrote that Brian James and the TNA management had been in talks for some time, but no one was aware that the discussions centered around him potentially replacing Dreamer. With Dreamer gone, Hunter Johnston(Delirious) is believed to be the current head booker of TNA.
Meltzer also cited a WWE source as claiming that Brian James is a “very fundamentals-style booker” which the source felt was something TNA needed, and that he deals with talent enthusiastically and also has a positive outlook.
