Tommaso Ciampa’s WWE exit was reported a few weeks before he debuted in AEW, and he recently said that it’s the best thing that has happened to him. It was reported on January 3rd that Ciampa was not renewing his contract, which was about to expire. Ciampa confirmed the news later that month, and made his AEW debut on the January 28th episode of AEW Dynamite.
Ciampa recently appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub and talked about his exit from the company. He noted that the leaked report raised interest, which benefitted him mightily.
“The best thing to happen to me is that there was a leaked internet report when I had about two or three months left on my deal that said, ‘Ciampa is leaving WWE. We don’t know why, but when his deal is up, he’s leaving,’” Ciampa said ( “I have no idea where that came from, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
He continued, “It raised this interest, and I started to get a lot of inquiries. ‘Oh, look at these options I have.’ AEW wasn’t even part of that because, in Tony’s defense, he is very adamant that there is no tampering.”
Tommaso Ciampa faced Chris Jericho on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite and came out of it with a win.
