AEW President Tony Khan recently appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he opened up about a whole host of things related to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
During the conversation, Helwani asked Tony Khan about the status of Andrade El Idolo and former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker.
Andrade made a shocking appearance on AEW Dynamite this past October after being fired by WWE for reportedly violating their wellness policy on several instances. El Idolo arrived on Dynamite’s sixth-anniversary special episode and attacked Kenny Omega and aligned himself with The Don Callis Family. However, he disappeared from AEW after that one-off appearance, and it later emerged that WWE had sent him and AEW a cease-and-desist letter for violating a one-year non-compete clause that came into effect following his termination.
When asked about Andrade’s current status with All Elite Wrestling, Tony Khan refused to get into the exact details, but he did say that the doors of AEW are always open for the Mexican superstar.
“I had a great experience with him, and he left on the best of terms. And now, when he said he was free and made his one-night appearance, I was thrilled to see him again. And anytime he is free, and whenever that is, he is absolutely always welcome in AEW. I can’t speak to that. It is an interesting situation that, uh, I am going to keep an eye on, but I absolutely think the world of Andrade El Idolo,” Tony Khan said.
Tony Khan on Britt Baker’s status amid extended absence from AEW TV
Former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker has been away from weekly programming since November 2024. Amid her absence, several reports have claimed that Britt’s disappearance from television has to do with her backstage issues with other talents.
When asked if The D.M.D. would ever return to AEW TV, Tony Khan heaped high praise on Britt, acknowledging her contribution to the company and her accomplishments in and out of the ring. Khan is optimistic about her return but added that it would only be possible when it’s the right situation for her and everybody involved.
“Britt Baker is somebody that I love and respect. She’s also been with AEW from the very beginning. She’d been away at times for health reasons, and she had some injuries. I’m just looking for the right time with Britt, and I’ve had a really good talk with Britt, who I really, really like. I think Britt’s a great person in and out of the ring. She’s so impressive. To have somebody that went to medical school, earned their degree, has practiced, and also has wrestled at a high level and juggled all these things, I think it’s really impressive,” he said.
Tony Khan continued:
“And as somebody who juggles a lot of jobs and a lot of work, I respect Britt’s work ethic a lot. She’s also a great wrestler, so I would love to have Britt back in AEW. And Britt is gonna be back in AEW, and I hope soon. But it’s gonna be the right situation for her and everybody involved. I wanna make sure she’s 100 percent, and that’s important to me. I really care about the health and well-being of all the wrestlers, and in Britt’s case, I think she can come in and still be a huge part of AEW, and I expect she will.”
