Tony Schiavone Defends His Hype of Steven Borden

Does Sting’s son, Steven Borden, already deserve the same kind of hype his dad got? Tony Schiavone certainly thinks so. After years of proclaiming “It’s Sting!” for the elder Borden, the veteran announcer has taken to saying “It’s Steven!” in the same way. Speaking with Battleground podcast, as transcribed by Fightful, Schiavone justified his call, saying that Steven deserves it.
“I was thinking, ‘Should I really do this?’ It’s one of those snap decisions that you make and I didn’t want to disparage his dad,” he said. “I don’t think I ever could because I’ve been tied to his career. But, I thought it was the right thing to do because the kid is trying to make his way in the business. He looks good. Hell, when he talks, he sounds exactly like his dad. He’s such a great athlete. Oddly enough, because I worked for the Georgia Bulldogs for many years, I saw Steven Borden play football at the University Of Kentucky.”
After praising his dad, whose career ran parallel with Schiavone’s own in its prime, he added, “I think there’s a very good career ahead of Steven Borden, I really do.”
