Ahead of WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, WWE Superstar Trick Williams spoke to Paige B. with Black America Web’s The Tap Out Tea to discuss his career and more. Williams also spoke about beating Sami Zayn to win the WWE US Title for the first time at WrestleMania 42 and more. Below are some highlights:
Trick Williams on Winning the WWE US Title at WrestleMania 42
“Unreal, and no pun intended because I know it was captured on the Unreal show on Netflix. Shout out to my parents, who you know made their appearance on there. But you know, just being able to see them in the crowd. That’s literally one of the first things I remember after them ringing the bell. My mom crying on the front row. I’m like, I’m supposed to be a big, bad, mean, tough guy talking trash, dropping diss tracks, doing all these different things. I see my mama crying on the front row, and you know I felt like a little kid again. Then, you know, it kind of hits you like, man, as a little kid, if I knew I was going to be in WrestleMania, my first WrestleMania, winning a title, you know, 55,000 people there chanting for me, whooping that trick, you know, I would have probably been cried tears of joy then. So, just being there in lifetime at that moment, my family there, you know what I mean? Support my boy, little Lil Yachty there; everything like that was just an unreal moment.”
On His Wife Lash Legend Being His Support System
“Yeah, man. I mean, that’s my best friend. It’s my support system. And you can see, you know, from my career standpoint, just the trajectory of Trick Williams just, you know, go up, up and up and up, you know, the more that me and her actually began to connect and, you know, get closer and get to learn each other and different things like that. So, I don’t think it’s a coincidence at all, you know. Shoot, when I first told her, like, ‘Hey, want to be me and you, like, let’s do this.’ She said, ‘Okay, you need to put on 30 pounds.’ That’s what she told me the first day. I said, ‘How you going to tell me what I need to do? I ain’t going to tell you what you need to do.’ You know what I mean?
“But the truth is, she was right, though. You know what I mean? That 30 lbs might be the difference between me being the guy on the roster and me looking like the heavyweight champion one day. So, you get to see me growing into the person I was supposed to be. And, you know, I’m grateful for her and a lot her role she had to do with it. And same thing vice versa too. I try to push her, make sure that she’s at the top of her game, and give her the mental support and the emotional support and everything so we both can win and succeed.”
On Working With Lil Yachty
“Maan, it’s dope, man. Working with Platinum Diamond multi-time selling artist Lil Yachty because he loves the business, you know, I mean, we was friends before we started working together, which was always cool, but um getting to know him on a more business level and a friendship level, you know, it’s been really cool to see his growth in the business, see him train, you know, break old habits and start new habits that’s probably going to be better for his life and that’s exciting to see. You know what I mean? And he said he wanted a match. He said he wanted a match, and here we are this Sunday. The Lil Yachty is having his first match, and he better survive for five minutes because if he doesn’t survive for five minutes and Trick Williams does his title opportunity. So, he’s been training, you know, I mean, he said he got a video for me this Friday, and he can’t wait to show it. Show me what he’s been working on the past couple weeks since I’ve been on media tour. So, we’ll see.”
Of course, at last weekend’s WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, Lil Yachty did survive five minutes in the ring with Baron Corbin. As a result, Trick Williams beat Baron Corbin to regain the WWE United States Title.
