Update on Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk Summerslam Match Being Listed as Street Fight on Stadium Chairs

Earlier today, images of the souvenir chairs at WWE SummerSlam showed the CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes image with a caption reading “street fight.” Was this a last-minute stipulation we somehow missed? What with all the social media channels and Club WWE, the company has a lot of official channels, and sometimes makes announcements on one that might not be quoted on the rest, at least immediately.

Well, no. Not this time. PWInsider did some digging and found out that the stipulation will not be happening tonight. It’s seemingly just a case of booking plans changing after official merchandise has been designed, like a Revenge of the Jedi T-shirt. Or perhaps more on point, the WrestleMania XII souvenir shirt that billed Savio Vega vs. The Ring Master, even though the latter was renamed Stone Cold Steve Austin by the time of the event.

Regardless of the match officially being a street fight or not, major title matches at PLEs often bend the rules quite a bit anyway. However, since both men are currently good guys, it would be out of character to announce it as such. If either man cheats, it ought to be a shocking moment for the fans.
