Update on John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio Plans For WWE Survivor Series

John Cena could win the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio at WWE Survivor Series, reports The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Dave Meltzer added that Cena could then go on to defend the WWE Intercontinental Title against Gunther for his final match. As noted earlier, Gunther is widely expected to be Cena’s final opponent.
Interestingly, Cena has never won the IC Title in his career, though has won the WWE Championship 14 times, and the World Heavyweight Championship three times.
Cena is currently on the last leg of his Farewell Tour. He was squashed at Wrestlepalooza by a returning Brock Lesnar. Right after the squash match against Lesnar, fans clamored for John Cena to have a match against AJ Styles. This thought was echoed by the 17-time champion as well, which ultimately resulted in WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H booking the match. The bout drew a lot of acclaim from fans and pundits alike.

Cena’s final match is scheduled to take place at Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C., on December 13. His Farewell Tour has been met with mixed reactions, with his heel turn being widely viewed as a flop. Cena himself referred to it as a failure.
