Update On Io Shirai’s Contract Status In WWE, Note On What Might Get Her To Stay

It was reported earlier this month that Io Shirai has not signed a new deal with WWE and could be a free agent soon. Shirai responded in a brief Twitter post, with a vomiting emoji next to the word rumors, seemingly denying reports that she was on her way out.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Shirai has still not signed any contract that has been offered to her and those in NXT believe she will return to Japan and STARDOM, now that STARDOM has the financial backing of Bushiroad. However, sources in STARDOM weren’t aware if she would come back, although they believed she would move to Japan if not with WWE.

If she lets her WWE contract expire without a renewal, she could work anywhere immediately. She had been injured and hasn’t been used for months, but has been training at the Performance Center lately.

Those who know her from Japan said that she went to WWE with the goal of going to the main roster. They believe that she would stay in WWE if she were given a main roster deal. WWE has recently made an offer and her current deal has not expired yet.
