Will Ospreay Weighs in On Ilja Dragunov Potentially Joining AEW, Says Their Match Can Headline Any Event

AEW World Champion Will Ospreay recently weighed in on the prospect of sharing the ring with Ilja Dragunov in All Elite Wrestling.

As noted, Dragunov exited WWE last month following the expiration of his contract. Media reports have since claimed that The Mad Dragon has signed with AEW and is set to start soon.

During a recent appearance on The Takedown on SI, The Aerial Assassin commented on potentially facing Ilja in AEW. While Ospreay didn’t confirm Ilja’s signing, he believes that the latter’s intensity makes him a great fit for AEW. On potentially competing with Ilja in the future, Ospreay said that if built well, their match could headline any pay-per-view and draw huge money. Here’s what he said:

On whether Ilja Dragunvov fits in AEW

“As a performer, I think there isn’t many people that can bring the level of intensity that he does. I think he has a crazy ability to be to make anyone that he is wrestling perform onto the same intensity that he does. I think that’s a very unique pro wrestler to be able to do that because there are, of course, intense individuals within AEW. But I feel like he is a complete anomaly.”

On potentially facing Ilja in AEW

“Dragunov was someone that performed on wXw for a fair bit of time, and there have been shows that we’ve been on, we’ve been on the same shows together, but we have never shared a ring with one another. Hearing that there’s potential that he is coming in is exciting because I’m sure if you bring him in and you keep us on separate sides of the roster and build us both up, it could generally be like a big money-drawing singles match that could main event any show anywhere in the world.”

Meanwhile, Will Ospreay is set for a huge weekend, as he defends the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley at All Out: Chicago.
