David Finlay is exploring his options outside of NJPW, and a new report notes that WWE has interest in him. As previously reported, Finlay is said to be exploring his options outside of New Japan as his contract comes up soon. It was noted a couple of weeks ago that Finlay is looking at America and hoping to spend more time in the US this year.
He may have a chance to get that opportunity, as Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that Finlay has been discussed within WWE. The site notes that there have not been talks between the two and Finlay still has obligations to NJPW. However, WWE has interest in bringing him in, potentially for the NXT brand.
NJPW is hoping to keep Finlay, who has been with the company since 2015. He is a two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, a former IWGP Tag Team Champion, and a former NEVER Openweight Champion. He won the 2025 New Japan Cup.
Finlay competed at both NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 and NJPW New Year Dash! over the past weekend. He was on the losing end of multi-person tag matches on both shows, with United Empire picking up wins over the BULLET CLUB War Dogs.
