Backstage Update on Status of WWE Night of Champions Happening in Saudi Arabia

As previously reported, WWE was planning two more shows for Saudi Arabia in 2026. However, there were many questions about those shows due to the ongoing war in Iran. One of the shows was reportedly planned for Saudi Arabia around June.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has an update on the situation, stating that the show originally planned for the region in June could be in jeopardy. Sources in WWE have reportedly told the outlet that it’s “doubtful at best” that WWE Night of Champions 2026 will take place there because of the ongoing conflict.

The report notes that while things could change, the word for now is that the event is unlikely to happen in Saudi Arabia. An earlier report from F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez stated that WWE had “discussions” regarding the two Saudi Arabia shows for 2026 due to the recent conflict, which has also spread to other countries in the region after Iran struck American bases in allied regions, including Saudi Arabia.

At the time, Alvarez noted that while WWE had only been in “discussions” about the shows’ status, but no decisions had been made. However, Dave Meltzer reported in a F4WOnline.com daily update on Sunday that most in WWE are “under the impression” that the summer WWE PLE in the region is unlikely to happen there unless things improve.

Based on WrestleVotes Radio report, it appears that those discussions have advanced somewhat, and it’s now “doubtful at best” that the Saudi shows will go off this year as originally planned. WWE held last year’s Night of Champions in Riyadh on June 28. The 2023 event was held in May in Jeddah. King and Queen of the Ring 2024 was also held in Jeddah in May of that year.

Additionally, WrestleMania 43 is also scheduled for 2027 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It’s not yet clear how the current conflict might affect that upcoming event unless the situation changes.

WWE Night of Champions PLE Plans Appear To Be in Flux

Following next month’s WrestleMania 42, the next WWE PLE on the company’s schedule is Clash in Italy, which will be held in Turin, Italy on May 31. After that, the only other summer PLE on the schedule is SummerSlam 2026, which takes place on August 1-2 at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

WWE has not yet announced a summer PLE show for June or July, and things appear to still be in flux due to the conflict in Iran.
