As previously reported, AJ Styles wrestled in likely his final match in Japan last weekend at a WWE Supershow live event in Tokyo, Japan. WWE has now released a video documenting Styles’ emotional goodbye to the Japanese wrestling audience.

Before arriving in WWE, Styles had left TNA Wrestling and joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), becoming a top star for the organization and winning the IWGP Heavyweight Title on multiple occasions, making his mark on the Japanese wrestling community. During the event, Styles defeated Kofi Kingston in a singles bout.

In a backstage interview clip taken from after the match, Styles said about Japan, “I felt so much love here in Japan for everything that I’ve done here. I don’t know where or would’ve even been WWE if it wasn’t for Japan.” He continued, “So just as long as they know that I appreciate them as much as they appreciate me, if not more.”

Footage in the video also shows Styles taking a break mid-match to find out Pro Wrestling NOAH legend Naomichi Marufuji, who was sitting ringside. Styles then walked over to Marufuji to embrace his former rival, who he wrestled last year at NOAH Destination 2024 in July 2024.

The festivities continued after the main event, when CM Punk and Shinsuke Nakamura brought out Styles, giving the former WWE Champion to say farewell to the Japanese wrestling audience.

AJ Styles and CM Punk Share an Emotional Embrace at WWE Supershow Event in Japan

The new WWE video shows the emotional moment of CM Punk and AJ Styles, who have a long shared history together, having an embrace in the ring. Punk can be heard telling Styles, “I’m glad you’re here. We took the long way, but we’re here.” Styles responds, “You’re right.”

Styles then took the microphone, receiving a huge ovation from the fans in Japan. As noted, Styles remarked, “It should be me thanking you for everything you’ve done for AJ Styles.” He later added, “I don’t know where I would be without you. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be here in the WWE if it wasn’t for you, coming and wrestling in Japan.”

The WWE locker room also came to the ring, shaking hands and embracing Styles for his illustrious career.

AJ Styles To End His In-Ring Career on a High Note

As noted, Styles recently confirmed his plan to retire later next year. However, he will be ending his career on a high note. Earlier this month, he competed against John Cena during Cena’s Farewell Tour in a classic bout at WWE Crown Jewel Perth. Also, at last Monday’s WWE Raw, Styles successfully teamed with Dragon Lee, beating The Judgment Day to win the World Tag Team Titles.

WWE and Styles have not yet revealed Styles’ exit date, but his current WWE contract reportedly expires early next year. The video of Styles’ goodbye to Japan is available below.
