During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported more details regarding the recent wave of WWE roster cuts. According to Meltzer, the roster cuts are done for now. According to Meltzer, “I am told that cuts are done.”

Meltzer indicated that every talent who has been released has been informed, but noted how some other names have been revealed. Meltzer stated, “I don’t know if we know every name, but every name has been told. If someone was told and did not go on social media, or they did not remove the name from the website yet, it is possible a name or two could still come out, but they have all been done for now.”

As previously noted, Bryan Alvarez stated his belief on Wrestling Observer Live that more talent releases might be coming. He also reported that he was told last Friday that Tama Tonga would be among last week’s releases. However, for now, Tama Tonga remains part of the WWE roster.

Possible Reasons for the Latest Round of WWE Roster Cuts

As noted, Meltzer also stated that WWE and TKO held back on roster cuts last year because TKO had recently taken over the company and wanted to come off as the “good guys.” However, it should be noted that WWE released 15 talents on May 2 last year. That round of cuts included Braun Strowman, Cora Jade (aka Elayna Black), Cedric Alexander, Gigi Dolin, Shayna Baszler, and Dakota Kai. The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering were released earlier in the year as well.

Meltzer also reported that WWE’s creative team had input on the roster cuts as well, informing management on who they weren’t planning to use. Additionally, more names were reportedly cut on the SmackDown side since SmackDown is said to be moving back to two hours soon.
