The show scored a 0.29 rating in the 18- to 49 demo, up from the 0.23 rating it achieved the previous Friday. It must be noted that last week’s episode was taped.
The September 4, 2026, episode of WWE SmackDown was headlined by the Undisputed WWE Championship clash between CM Punk and Johnny Gargano. The match saw interference from Sami Zayn, following which Kevin Owens, Gunther, and Finn Balor came out to brawl with Sami at ringside.
Sami blasted Owens, Gunther, and Balor with the championship belt, and then did the same to Punk behind the referee’s back. However, Punk was able to kick out and hit the GTS on Gargano for the pinfall. After his victory, Punk grabbed a microphone and offered Zayn a shot at his title in Mexico City this Friday.
