Zoey Serrano, the former Zoey Stark, recently recounted a story in which Dakota Kai suffered temporary memory loss during a head injury on WWE Raw. Serrano posted to Twitter on Wednesday to announce a new video series, Zoey 101, in which she will answer fan questions. The first episode featured 10 questions. Among the questions were whether she’s ever had a dream about forgetting her wrestling gear (she has) and whether she has ever soiled herself in a match (she hasn’t).
One of the questions asked what the worst that she’s ever hurt anyone in a match. She recalled how she broke Kacy Catanzaro’s nose, which she said she felt bad about, and another time when she knocked Kai loopy during a tag team match where she and Shayna Baszler were facing Kai and (she believed) IYO SKY on WWE Raw. It would appear that she was talking about the January 20th, 2025 episode of WWE Raw which is the only time those two teams competed in a two-on-two match on Raw.
“The other one I feel really, incredibly bad about is when I was wrestling Dakota Kai,” Stark said. “It was me and Shayna (Bazler) versus Dakota — and I wanna say it was IYO. And Shayna had her [Kai], we do a blind tag. So Dakota is hitting the ropes, Shayna goes for a drop down and here I come out of nowhere, a big missile dropkick. And as I hit that missile dropkick, I don’t hit her in the head. I’d never do that; I always hit people in the chest. But the force of her jumping and me coming into her and that collision caused her to fall back and really like ricochet, hit her head really bad. And she lost memory and she couldn’t remember where she was at.”
“She was a trooper though, because I kept asking if she was okay and she was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, I’m fine, just finish the match.’ And she got through it, I don’t know if muscle memory kicked in or what. But we finish the match, no problem. And got to the back and she couldn’t remember a thing. That one I feel awful about too. So I would probably say those two are the worst I probably hurt someone, and to this day I apologize profusely. Because boy that — I like knowing I keep people safe when they’re in the ring with me. There’s that trust: I’m giving them my body and they’re giving me their body. And so, we have to always have that trust between each other, and sometimes things just happen and sadly those two times did happen. So ladies, once again I’m sorry.”
