Leighty’s WWE Main Event Review: 03.27.25

-Another international crowd so should be a fun couple of matches. Let’s get to it!

-Announce Team: Blake Howard and Vic Joseph
-Taped: OVO Hydro, Glasgow, Scotland

Dakota Kai vs. Ivy Nile (w/ The Creed Brothers)

-Nile shoves Kai to start and Kai shoves back. Nile misses a clothesline and Kai gets a trip and hits a head kick on the floor. Back in the ring Kai gets a headlock take down, but misses a kick in the corner. Release German by Nile and she gets a running kick in the corner for two. Ivy fires off forearms to the small of the back. Kai gets a fluke roll-up for two and then a roll up for two. The didn’t count as Ivy had her shoulders off the mat, so she had to put them back down. That was a better job of covering than we have seen by other refs in the past. The start trading blows as the crowd boos and cheers. Discus forearm from Kai and then a dropkick. Running boot across the face and then another as Ivy gets to her feet. Ivy fights off the shoulders and gets a roll-up but lifts Dakota up and hits a powerbomb into a stack position for a two count. Kai back with a small package. She hits a Scorpion Kick and GTK finishes at 4:54.

Winner: Dakota Kai via pin at 4:54
-Little sloppy here as I was expecting a little more. The crowd was kind of subdued as well. *1/2

-Peacock commercials!

-WrestleMania commercial! Hopefully it’s not on Easter again anytime soon.

-Back to RAW as John Cena talks about giving us the gift of The Spinner Belt and the fans ate him alive. Cena vows to ruin wrestling for every fan, wrestler, and basically everyone. He will win a 17th Championship and force us to forget the name of Ric Flair. We will forever say the name, John Cena. He will win that Championship and retire with it. Little shades of CM Punk circa 2011 there. Cody’s music hits, but we take a break.

-Commercials!

-Back to RAW as we get Cody’s full entrance! It’s cool as I like hearing the song. The crowd is singing for Cody Rhodes and both men are pro enough to lay out and let the crowd control things for a bit. Cody tells Cena the mistake he made was saying what he just did with him in the building. Cody wants to fight as he rips his jacket open. Cena look ready to go, but knows what he is doing and backs away as the crowd boos. Cody gets the last word and says Cena walking away empty handed will be how he walks away from Mania and the WWE.

-Cody and Cena will be in London this week on RAW! Also, Logan Paul will call out AJ Styles as they get ready to make their match at Mania official.

-Recap of the Women’s World Title issues with Rhea pulling a Shawn Michaels circa 2004 and inserting herself into someone’s Title Match.

-Peacock commercials!

-WWE World at WrestleMania

-Back to RAW as Adam Pearce has a contract for the Woman’s World Title Match at Mania, and then we go to another commercial. What is happening this week?

-Peacock commercials!

-Back to RAW as Iyo comes out and she says she will take on both Rhea and Bianca. Pearce gets interrupted by Bianca this time and she rightly says Rhea has no claim to be in this match. Bianca is starting to lean heel which is fine. Rhea is out to interrupt Pearce to continue the running joke. Rhea doesn’t care about WrestleMania and just wants her Title back. She wants a rematch and Bianca tells her to wait until after Mania. Pearce gives Rhea her rematch and the winner faces Bianca at WrestleMania. The women brawl and this week, Bianca stands tall.

-This Monday on RAW: Iyo vs. Rhea w/ Bianca as Special Ref; GUNTHER vs. Jimmy Uso!

-Peacock commercials!

-Backlash commercial! Orton almost assuredly has to be in the Main Event. The question is against Cena or Cody?

-Back SmackDown in Bologna, Italy some 8 days ago. Video package running down the Roman/Punk/Rollins issues!

-Mania Vegas: Punk vs. Rollins vs. Reigns is official!

Xavier Woods (w/ Kofi Kingston) vs. Akira Tozawa (w/ Otis and Maxxine Dupri)

-Again, Alpha Academy/Babes are the work horses of Main Event in 2025! Can’t remember the last time Woods was on this show. The crowd is already into this one more than the opener as they are all over Woods. That turn on Big E seems like a long time ago considering we’ve had Cena turn since then. Woods runs into some boots in the corner and Tozawa hits a dropkick that sends Woods to the floor. Suicide Dive as we head to a break at 1:33.

-60 seconds of Peacock commercials!

-Stand Deliver commercial! April 19!

-Back at 3:06 with Woods in control. Unique move as he stomps the bottom rope that hits Tozawa in the throat as he was laying down. Cool! Delayed vertical suplex as Woods shows off his power. He struts like Jeff Jarrett and the hits a double biceps pose. Again, cool! I approve of being a cocky douche! Tozawa fires up but Woods cuts him off and hits a double stomp from the middle rope as Tozawa was hanging in the ropes. That gets two! The crowd lets New Day know they suck again. Commentary brings up LFG as Maxxine’s boyfriend is on the show. My recap of that show can be found here. Kofi lets us know this match is a lightweight going up against a heavyweight. Tozawa starts his rally with a rana and then a Shining Wizard. Up top and a missile dropkick gets two! TOZAWA-MANIA RUNNING WILD as he tears his shirt! He heads up top again, but Kofi gets on the apron to provide a distraction. Otis charges and Kofi moves which causes Otis to go crashing into the stairs. Tozawa with a dive on Kofi, but gets caught coming back in by Woods and we go to another commercial at 7:52. Seriously? What is this?

-65 seconds of Peacock commercials!

-It just picks up where we left off, so that break isn’t going to be counted in the run time. Woods up top and drops an elbow for the pin at 8:14.

Winner: Xavier Woods via pin at 8:14
-This was solid, but that last Peacock commercial was infuriating. Woods getting the win is the right choice. Alpha Academy can keep taking losses and they will always be over with the crowd. **1/2

-Back to RAW for a video package recapping Balor vs. Breakker for the IC Title.

-Peacock commercials!

-Clash in Paris commercial! Crowd should be great! They should do Punk vs. Styles there!

-Run down of what is to come on SmackDown, which we all saw last night.

-Back to RAW as Bron Breakker defended his IC Title against Penta! Fun match! No winner as Prison Dom interferes. He wants Penta to join, but after teasing a chair shot to Bron, he throws it back to Dom and superkicks it in his face. Judgment Day attack Penta and Bron and stand tall.

-Thanks for reading!

-Kind of disappointed this week as the crowd in Glasgow did not come off as well as the crowd in Brussels the previous week. The opener was a bit sloppy, but the Main Event was solid enough to pull this back into average territory for this show.
