Aquaman Horror Spinoff The Trench Reportedly in the Works
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Bros. is currently developing a new spinoff based on the smash-hit Aquaman film that would take moviegoers deep into the realm depicted in the film that is The Grentch.
Warner Bros. has reportedly tapped writers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to write a horror-themed script that would focus on the realm of the Trench from the film. It was home to deadly amphibious creatures that Aquaman encounters in the film.
James Wan and Peter Safran are attached to produce the project, which is currently titled The Trench. The film would apparently have a more modest budget than the average DC comic book superhero tentpole film. Of course, horror is a genre that is right in the wheelhouse for director and producer James Wan, who directed the original Saw film, Insidious, and The Conjuring.
The Trench creatures were first introduced in the comics in 2011 during the revamp of the Aquaman comics for New 52. The Trench were inhabitants of Atlantis but were cut off from other survivors and evolved into ravenous monsters. How the story would work is a big question mark, considering that the Trench creatures lacked any sort of sentience or higher intelligence. They acted more like a pack of piranhas.
Details on The Trench are being kept under wraps, but it would be set in the Trench kingdom and would not feature the main cast of Aquaman. You can check out 411’s official review of the film RIGHT HERE.
