Golden Globes Irishman Once Upon a Time

The 2020 Golden Globe nominations have been revealed, and Netflix ruled the roost with the most nominations across film and TV. The streaming service picked up 34 total nominations to lead the pack, scoring a host of nods for films like Marriage Story and The Irishman as well as TV shows in Unbelievable and The Crown. It’s a dominant performance by the content provider, which has been strong in the TV categories for a while but is now performing just as well in the film categories. HBO came in second with 15 nominations, all in television.

Among the film nominees, Marriage Story scored the most nominations with six: Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama (Adam Driver), Best Actress in a Drama (Scarlett Johansson), Best Supporting Actress (Laura Dern), Best Original Score and Best Screenplay. It was followed by The Irishman and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood with five nods each, and Joker and The Two Popes — another Netflix film — with four each. 1917, Knives Out, Parasite, and Rocketman all earned three nominations.

On the TV side, The Crown and Unbelievable tied with HBO’s Chernobyl for the most nods with four each, followed by a host of shows (Barry, Big Little Lies, Fleabag, Fosse/Verdon, The Kominsky Method, The Morning Show, and Succession) with three each. Notably, some of HBO’s big dramas were left out in the cold. Game of Thrones only got one nod, for Kit Harington in Best Actor in a Drama, and Watchmen was shut out. Also left out in the cold was Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, HBO’s Veep, FX’s Pose and AMC/Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
