Awesome Kong Says Her AEW Departure Was Amicable: “They Paid Me Way Longer Than I Would’ve”
In an interview with Victorie (via Fightful), Awesome Kong spoke about her departure from AEW in 2020 and said that she ended things amicably with the promotion. Kong was one of the earliest signings to AEW and was on television for the company’s first year.
She said: “I had just started out with AEW almost like a year before the pandemic, at the beginning of 2019. Whenever AEW started, I was there, and then in the middle…I had to leave for a little bit to go shoot GLOW, and then while we were shooting GLOW, the pandemic happened, and because of certain ailments that I have, I could not travel, and god bless them, AEW paid me way longer than I thought they would or should, and we just parted ways because I couldn’t come back, and why keep paying someone? We parted amicably, seriously. They paid me way longer than I would’ve paid somebody who’s not coming in for a job. I’m just saying, so yeah.”
