Brandon Girtz Wants To Fight Josh Thomson When He Returns
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Brandon Girtz (14-4 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) said he wants a fight with Josh Thomson (22-8 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) when he returns to Bellator. Girtz has been out of the promotion since he had surgery six months ago for a torn ACL. Here are highlights:
On who he wants to fight when he returns: “Josh Thomson is definitely a name I’m gunning for when I come back right now. So I’m hoping that’s the name they’ll put in front of me.”
On if he has any issues with Thomson: “There ain’t no beef, there’s respect there, that’s for sure. Now that (Benson) Henderson and (Patricio) ‘Pitbull’ (Freire) are fighting, I can’t – I’d like to fight Henderson, but he’s already taken right now. So Thomson is the other top guy on the block. That’s definitely who I want to fight. I don’t need no warm-up fight or nothing, I want the best right now.”
On preparing himself for a return: “I just put in my head anything can happen anytime, just like in a fight or in life. So I try not to focus on re-injuring it or whatnot, because it could happen, I could injure something else. Anything could happen in life. That’s why I push, mentally in own head, that not to sit there and worry about it. Because if it happens, it happens, you know?”
