Barstool Sports recently interviewed UFC President Dana White after the UFC 244 press conference, promoting Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz for the “BMF title” later this year. The fight will headline the fight card at Madison Square Garden in New York City. During the interview, White also revealed that UFC heavyweight title rematch is in the works between current champion Stipe Miocic and former champion Daniel Cormier (h/t MMAFighting).

Dana White stated on the matchup, “Stipe is recovering from that fight. He’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight, and yeah, we’re gonna do that trilogy.”

Miocic regained the title from Cormier at UFC 241 last August via a fourth-round knockout. Cormier had previously won the title from Miocic via first-round knockout at UFC 226 in July of the previous year. Now, the two fighters are 1-1, so this will mark the rubber match between the two.

Previously, Cormier had made proclamations at retiring at age 40. However, that time-frame was extended when it appeared a title fight with Brock Lesnar or another fight with longtime rival Jon Jones could materialize. Ultimately, Cormier returned to grant a title rematch against Miocic, the first and only man to defend the UFC heavyweight belt on three occasions. Cormier ultimately lost he fight, but now may receive a rematch.

This does put a bit of a question mark on Francis Ngannou, who had arguably earned another shot at the belt after knocking out former champions Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez.
