Dana White Says Khabib Nurmagomedov Is the Sole Lightweight Champion After UFC 223

Dana White put any doubts to rest whether there is still an interim champion after Khabib Nurmagomedov’s win at UFC 223. MMAjunkie reports that White told reports after the fight that Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson are no longer the undisputed and interim lightweight champions, and that the undisputed title belongs to Nurmagomedov.

“That’s it,” White said. “That’s the only belt.”

The UFC 223 main event was originally intended to be Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson, but that fight was scratched due to an injury by Ferguson. It was the fourth attempt to book the fight and, according to White, the last. Nurmagomedov beat Al Iaquinta to claim the title on Saturday night’s show.
