Gilbert Melendez Discusses His Current Leg Injury and Making a Return to the Octagon
MMAjunkie Radio recently interviewed UFC fighter Gilbert Melendez, who is still dealing with a leg injury that is preventing him from getting back into the Octagon. Below are some highlights from the interview.
Melendez on his injured leg: “That’s the only thing holding me back right now from jumping in. My whole body feels great. I feel like I haven’t taken too many beatings, but my leg has taken a lot of beatings. I guess my leg is part of me, but it’s taken a lot of beatings. But that’s my biggest concern, but a lot of us fighters have injuries. And that’s just part of the game.”
Melendez on what makes sense for his next fight: “I want someone that makes sense for me, that I can stand with a little bit and stay in the pocket a little bit more. Maybe someone a little older, like Gil.”
Melendez on how important his next fight is: “This is the most important fight right now for me. I need to win, or it’s time for me to really sit back. If I win, I keep going. If I lose, I’m going sit back and regroup and see what’s next.”
