In the main event of last night’s UFC 221 event, Yoel Romero knocked out Luke Rockhold in the third round to take home the victory. Due to failing to make weight, Romero was not eligible to win the interim middleweight title. After the fight was over, Romero was visibly limping and unable to standup on one leg, leading to rumors that he might have a broken leg or foot. Later on, Romero’s manager, Abe Kawa of First Round management, offered an update for Romero on Twitter, which you can see below.

Based on Romero’s tweet, the injury is not serious or a leg break, and Romero would be ready to go again in a “couple weeks.”

While he’s not interim champion, the win possibly puts Romero in line for a rematch against current reigning champion Robert Whittaker, who is out due to injury and forced to withdraw from his spot at UFC 221. Whittaker previously defeated Romero by decision to become interim champion. Whittaker then became full champion after Georges St-Pierre relinquished the middleweight title.

UFC 221 was held last night at the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia. Full results and coverage for the event are available RIGHT HERE.
