2022 Emmy Results: Succession, Ted Lasso, White Lotus Win Top Awards

The 74th annual Emmy Awards saw the expected headliner victories as Succession, Ted Lasso, and White Lotus win the top awards in a night with just a few surprises. White Lotus Lead the way for the evening with a total of five wins, taking wins Limited Series, Anthology or Movie wins in Outstanding Supporting Actor (Murray Bartlett), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Jennifer Coolidge), Outstanding Directing (Mike White), Outstanding Writing (White again), and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Meanwhile, Ted Lasso ended up with four wins, picking up Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy (Brett Goldstein), Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy (Jason Sudeikis), Outstanding Directing in a Comedy (MJ Delaney) and the expected Outstanding Comedy Series statuette. Succession had three wins, with victories in Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama (Matthew Macfadyen), and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Jesse Armstrong).

It wasn’t just about those three shows, however. One of the biggest surprises was ABC’s comedy Abbott Elementary, which took home wins for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy (Quinta Brunson). Squid Game brought home an Emmy for Lee Jung-jae as Lead Actor in a Drama, as well as Outstanding Directing for a Drama (Hwang Dong-hyuk). And Zendaya became a two-time Emmy winner as she won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for Euphoria.

The other big surprise came in Outstanding Competition Series, where Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls knocked off perennial winner RuPaul’s Drag Race for the top spot. All in all, HBO/HBO Max dominated the night with 11 wins on the backs of White Lotus, Succession, Euphoria, and Hacks, while Apple TV+ was in second place with four (all for Ted Lasso.
