Amazon will not be giving Marvel’s Silk her live-action debut, with the planned Silk: Spider Society series reportedly not moving forward. It was reported back in September of 2020 that Sony Pictures Television is developing a television series based on the Spider-Man character, which Amazon was in talks to acquire. Deadline reports that the series will not be moving forward and that the final decision was made a few days ago.

Angela Kang, best known for her work in the Walking Dead universe, was behind the series. Kangis still under an overall deal at Amazon MGM Studios and will work on other projects. Amazon is still committed to live-action series set in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, while the rights to Silk have reverted back to Sony Pictures TV who will shop the series to other potential buyers.

The show was officially greenlit in 2022 with Kang on board to write, executive produce and showrun. Lauren Moon had originally been commissioned for the series, which would have followed Silk (aka Cindy Moon) as she escapes an imprisonment she has been under and seeks her missing family as she becomes the superheroine she is meant to be. After Moon, Amazon had brought Ton Spezialy (Watchmen) on board as showrunner before Kang got the job.

The site goes on to say that the show had gone through several versions, one of which involved a request for the show to be reconfigured so it didn’t lean so much on the lead character. The most pitch from Kang had been well-received, but the studio ultimately decided to shelve the show while discussing where to allocate resources for potentially expensive genre IP projects.
