SHIELD’s mission at ABC isn’t over quite yet. ABC has announced that they have renewed Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for a sixth season. The series will return with a thirteen-episode sixth run next season.

Agents of SHIELD has been a bubble show for the entirety of its fifth season. Airing on Fridays after the now-cancelled Inhumans finished its eight-episode run, the series averaged a 0.54 rating in the 18 – 49 demographic in live+Same Day DVR viewing. However, time-shifted ratings have shown strong gains for the show and Marvel gets a lot of money from international streaming deals, all of which helped ABC and Marvel Entertainment make a deal for a new season. Our official TV Renewal Predictions had the show listed as Likely Renewed in final predictions.

The fifth season airs its season finale on Friday at 9 PM ET/PT on ABC. Titled “The End,” the episode is described as follows: “Coulson’s life or death is the challenge the team finds themselves in, as the wrong decision will cause the destruction of Earth, in the spectacular season finale of ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’”
