Rumors about Spider-Man 3 delving into the multiverse are gaining weight as Alfred Molina, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Magure & more are reportedly set to return to the Spider-Verse. THR reports that Molina is set to reprise his role as Otto Octavious from the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man 2, confirming the news after it was reported by GWW last month that Molina was seen on set.

In addition, Collider reports that Garfield is set to return as his version of Peter Parker from the Amazing Spider-Man films while Tobey Maguire is in talks with Sony and Marvel to return. Collider reports that Kirsten Dunst will return as MJ from the Raimi films and Emma Stone may return as Gwen Stacy.

The news comes amid rumors that have been flying strong for a while now that the third film will tap into the multiverse, something that was hinted at in Spider-Man: Far From Home. That film’s Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, claimed to be from another universe but was not, though it introduced the theories of other worlds into the MCU. The post-credits stinger of that film saw J.K. Simmons reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson, revealing that Peter Parker was Spider-Man and airing manipulated footage that made him appear to be the murderer of Mysterio.

Sony had a hit with the animated Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, and a sequel to that film is in the works. Spider-Man 3 will bring back Jamie Foxx as Electro alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori and Marisa Tomei. Benedict Cumberbatch is reprising his role as Doctor Strange for the Jon Watts-directed threequel, which is currently shooting and will open on December 17th, 2021.
