If you haven’t had enough of Jim Carrey talking out of his butt, good news: Amazon is developing a third Ace Ventura film. Morgan Creek, the company that produced the first two entries of the franchise that made Carrey an A-List star, revealed in an interview with Park Circus that a third film is currently on the way.

“We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third installment,” the statement said. “During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.”

Sonic the Hedgehog was written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller and co-starred Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. A sequel to the film is currently in production. There’s no confirmation as of yet as to whether Carrey would star in the third Ace Ventura film or if a new actor would take on the role.

The Ace Ventura franchise was never popular with critics, to say the least. However, between the 1994 original and its 1995 sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, the films made $319.6 million worldwide on a combined production budget of just $45 million. There was also an animated series that ran for three seasons between CBS and Nickelodeon and a largely-forgotten TV film Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective.
