IT director Andy Muschietti will be bringing Batman into the new DCU with Batman: Brave And The Bold. Deadline reports that Muschietti, who directed both chapters of the IT film franchise, is officially set to direct the film. DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the news on Thursday night.
“We saw The Flash even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not a visionary director, but a massive DC fan,” said Gunn and Safran in a statement. “It’s a magnificent film — funny, emotional, thrilling — and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice.”
This movie is part of the core DCU that is being launched with Superman: Legacy and is separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman and its upcoming sequel, both of which are “Elseworlds” films set outside of the main film and TV universe’s continuity. The new film will feature Batman and his son Damien Wayne as Robin, a character first introduced in the comics by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert in 2006’s Batman #655. The son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al-Ghul, Damian has become a major part of the comic book universe and has appeared in several animated projects, though this will his first live-action appearance.
The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release date set, nor casting.
