Warning: Spoilers follow for Avengers: Endgame.

Anthony Mackie has revealed that Chris Evans was the person who told him about his big moment in Avengers: Endgame. Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson, essentially becomes the new Captain America at the end of the film when an elderly Cap (Evans), having aged while back in time living his chosen life with Peggy Cater, hands him the shield and says it’s his.

Mackie told IMDb (per Uproxx) that he had seen the script before shooting began on the film, and that Evans was the person who let him know.

“We were at his house and he goes, ‘You excited?’ And I go, ‘What are you talking about?’ and he goes, ‘You don’t know?’ He jumps up, runs out of the room and comes back in with the script,” Mackie said. He added that after he read through the scene, “We cried. We drank. We laughed, I am very happy I got that moment with Chris, for him to not only pass me the shield, but to tell me it was happening.”

The film is currently available in theaters and, of course, tearing up the box office.
