Apple Turns Down Dr. Dre’s Vital Signs Series Over Mature Content

September 24, 2018 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Apple’s streaming service has given Dr. Dre’s Vital Signs series a pass due to its violent and sexual content. Deadline reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook personally rejected the series, concerned that it would be too dark for their prospective customers.

Cook also reportedly asked for Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston’s series Hello Sunshine to be toned down, and rejected Whitney Cummings’ #MeToo-based talk show out of concerns that the topic was troo sensitive. M. Night Shyamalan‘s new series for the service was told to remove crucifixes from a character’s home out of fear of alienating religious viewers.

The move is notable in comparison to other networks, which have taken their subscription model as a way to free creators from network content restrictions. The service was previously set for the end of 2018 or early 2019, but will now launch in March 2019.
