DC Films and Warner Bros. are sticking to what worked for Aquaman, setting the sequel for a December release date. Deadline reports that the film will bow on December 16th, 2022. That follows with the December release date last year for the first film.

Ironically, the first film wasn’t originally scheduled to get the big holiday bounce. It was initially set for a July 27th release, and then was moved to October 8th before finally settling in on December 21st. It proved to be a boon, as the movie took advantage of the strong holds associated with the holiday season and rode the wave to $333.1 million domestically and $1.139 billion worldwide so far.

No details are known for the sequel’s plot yet, because it isn’t written. Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick was just recently brought on to write a treatment for the sequel. Jason Wan is expected to return as an executive producer, though whether he will direct again isn’t known. Jason Momoa will return of course, with Amber Heard and others also expected to reprise their roles.
