Babylon 5 and Lost Actress Mira Furlan Dead At 65
BBC reports that Mira Furlan, best known for her TV roles on Babylon 5 and Lost, passed away this past Wednesday due to complications of the West Nile Virus.
The Croatian actress played Delenn on Babylon 5. Sadly, with her passing, this makes seven members of the main cast of the sci-fi series to have passed since it went off the air, after Michael O’Hare, Jerry Doyle, Richard Biggs, Stephen Furst, Jeff Conaway and Andreas Katsulas. She played Delenn for all five seasons of the series and two of the TV movies.
She would go on to star in another sci-fi TV hit when she played Danielle Rousseau in Lost. She appeared in twenty episodes over six years.
Her family said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of Mira Furlan. She was a woman full of kindness, strength and compassion. She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles, surrounded by her family. We will all continue to celebrate her life and legacy, and know she’ll always be here with us.”
Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski posted a lengthy statement to social media, while adding: “It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her. But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe.”
