Veteran award-winning actor, Tom Wilkinson, has sadly passed away. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-nominated actor passed away in his home “suddenly” on Saturday (Dec. 30), per a statement from his family.

His family and wife were reportedly with him when he died. He was 75 years old. The statement from Wilkinson’s family reads, “The family asks for privacy at this time.”

During his esteemed and prestigious career, Tom Wilkinson took home the BAFTA for his role in The Full Monty, and he also received Oscar nominations for his roles in Michael Clayton and In the Bedroom. He took home the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role as Benjamin Franklin in the 2008 John Adams miniseries.

Besides his critically acclaimed and award-winning turns, Wilkinson was a very active, versatile character actor who showed up in a variety of films throughout his career. It was not unusual to see him in intense, heady indie dramas, Hollywood blockbusters, or even more slapstick comedies. Some of his film roles include Carmine Falcone in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, Shakespeare in Love, Rush Hour, The Patriot, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Green Hornet, Snowden, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Wilkinson would later reprise his role as Gerald from the 1997 hit film, The Full Monty, in the 2023 FX TV series of the same name, which acts as a follow-up to the original film. Some of his other television roles included The Kennedys, Recount, and David Copperfield.

On behalf of 411, we send our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Tom Wilkinson.
