It appears that, if Kevin Smith is accurate, a Batman The Animated Series sequel series is in development at HBO Max. Smith said on his Fatman Beyond podcast with co-host Marc Bernardin that they’ve heard from reliable sources that HBO Max is developing a sequel show.

After Bernardin said that he’s heard the rumor of the series, Smith said (per CS.net), “I think that’s real. I don’t think that’s a rumor, I wouldn’t say ‘Set your watch to it,’ but it’s an idea whose time is not only coming, I think it came, and it’s smoking a cigarette. I think that’s gonna happen. How f**king amazing would that be because you can just literally pick up and keep going. It’s not like, ‘Oh we gotta explain why everyone’s older,’ it’s f**king animation man so you can go right back to those amazing fucking stories.”

It is important to note that this information has not been confirmed at this time. The original series aired from 1992 to 1995 on FOX Kids and is a hallmark of both animation and Batman adaptations of the 1990s. The series is where Harley Quinn debuted before being adapted into the comic books, and the rest is of course history.
