Black Mirror Creator Thinks Fans Are Taking Bandersnatch Too Seriously

The creator of Black Mirror wants fans to lighten up over the series’ choose-your-own-adventure Bandersnatch film. Charlie Brooker spoke with Yahoo! UK about fans’ reactions to the standalone film, which prompted some harsh criticisms from Brooker after star Will Poulter left Twitter due to verbal abuse he had received from viewers.

“I only get annoyed when people think that Black Mirror takes itself more seriously than it actually does,” Brooker said of his comments. “I think this is a very playful story that we’ve done here and I think sometimes people lose sight of that and take it too seriously, so sod those people! I hope they take the film seriously but I think that they think we’re trying to sort of make some grand statement on humankind.”

The film, which has a trillion permutations because of its interactive nature, was criticized by fans over the many possibilities. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
