Barring a truly unprecedented collapse in the next four days, Black Panther is set to become one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe films ever. Variety now reports that the film has climbed even further than early expectations and is aiming for a $170 million-plus opening weekend.

While it is important to note that President’s Day will make this a four-day weekend at the box office, this is still an unmitigated smash if those numbers even close to hold up. That would put the film as the fifth highest-grossing three-day weekend opening in MCU history and easily the highest-grossing non-Avengers MCU franchise starter, beating out Spider-Man: Homecoming’s $117 million three day start last July by a wide margin.

The film is also almost certain to break Deadpool’s President’s Day record start of $152 million in 2016. The film is getting great reviews from critics (97% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far) and demand from movie-goers is sky-high, as proven by the film’s status as the best Marvel film in terms of ticket pre-sales ever.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Andy Serkis, and Forest Whitaker. It opens this Friday.
