The Saw franchise is set to potentially live again, as Blumhouse is reportedly in talks to buy the franchise. THR reports that the Jason Blum-ran studio is in negotiations to acquire the franchise from Twisted Pictures.

Twisted currently co-owns the rights with Lionsgate, who have distributed the franchise through its entirety. Blumhouse began talks to buy the franchise last year, but talks broke down over certain aspects including the sale price.

The Saw franchise has been tangled up over the past year after the success of Saw X in 2023 reinvigorated the franchise. Saw XI was greenlit, but co-writed Patrick Melton revealed in March that the film has made “zero progress” since May 2024 due to what he called “inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate.”

James Wan, who directed the first film, merged his Atomic Monster production banner with Blum’s Blumhouse in January of 2024. No word on whether this will resolve the issues around Saw XI.
