Charisma Carpenter Says She’s Not In Buffy The Vampire Slayer Revival

Charisma Carpenter has shot down speculation that she is set to return in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer revival. Carpenter played Cordelia Chase in three seasons of the series and four seasons of its spinoff Angel. Hulu is currently at work on a pilot that would revive the series with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning and a new slayer named Nova, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. There has been some speculation among fans that Carpenter may somehow reprise her role as Cordelia despite her character having died in Angel, pointing to the name of Carpenter’s Buffy rewatch podcast ‘The Bitch Is Back’ — in which Carpenter rewatches the show as Cordelia — as a potential sign she is returning.
However, Carpenter posted a video to TikTok to respond to a fan question about the matter and dispelled the speculation. In the video, which you can see below, she says (per JoBlo), “Hey, I get asked this a lot: ‘Are you doing the reboot?’ And I thought I would address it. I am not in the reboot. I am not in the pilot. I don’t even know if the show has been picked up to go to series – I assume it will be.”
She continued to say that her podcast “was not intended to sound coded in any kind of way, alluding to the fact that I was admitting to being in the reboot…People were also then commenting, ‘Oh is this… Are you saying…?’ like it was an easter egg à la Taylor Swift. Not at all. I have not had a conversation with any of the powers that be to include Cordelia at this point.”
In addition to Armstrong and Gellar, the intended series will star Sarah Bock, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, and Daniel Di Tomasso. Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) will direct and co-executive produce the pilot.
