Chris Evans Denies He’s Returning For Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans is shooting down reports that he is returning to the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday. It was reported in December that Evans was set to return for the 2026 MCU film, though at the time it was said his role was “not entirely clear.” Evans is denying that notion, telling Esquire that it’s “not true” and he’s “happily retired” from the MCU.
Evans told the outlet for their feature story on Anthony Mackie, “This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years—ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it.”
The quote was in response to Mackie telling Esquire, “I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn’t on the table then. At least, he didn’t tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, ‘You know, they said they’re bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?’ He goes, ‘Oh, you know, I’m happily retired.’”
It is of course worth noting that Marvel actors have often said they aren’t coming back, only to make surprise pop-ups. Andrew Garfield famously denied returning for Spider-Man: No Way Home but did ultimately return.
Whatever the case, Avengers: Dooomsday will be directed by the Russo Brothers and releases on May 1st, 2026.
