It appeared that Chris Evans was done playing Captain America after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In that film, he went to the past and never came back until he had lived a full life, handing over the shield to the Falcon. However, Deadline reports that Evans is currently in negotiations to return to the role for an upcoming MCU project, although it’s unknown what that will be.

The only thing known for sure at this time is that it will not likely be a new entry in the Captain America series, and is more likely to be what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3. Downey never got another Iron Man movie, but kept showing up as the character in films like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Evans had initially said he was done playing Cap, but recently an idea was floated in Marvel about him returning to see if there was any interest. As time passed, Evans became more willing to play Steve Rogers again. The two sides came to an agreement at the beginning of the year.
