Variety reports that Chris Pratt is in early talks to star in a new film version of The Saint from Paramount Pictures. Paramount picked up the rights in 2016. Lorenzo di Bonavenutra will produce with the goal of creating a new action franchise.
The film is based on the book series from Leslie Charteris, which follows Simon Templar, a man who steals from corrupt politicians and warmongers. He leaves a stick figure with a halo at his crime scenes as a calling card. The first time the character appeared was the 1928 book Meet the Tiger. It was adapted as a series of films in the late 1930s and 1940s, starring George Sanders. That was followed by a TV series starring Roger Moore in the 1960s and a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue.
