Christina Applegate wouldn’t put too much hope on the idea that a third Anchorman will happen. Applegate, who co-starred in the first two movies, told the Actor’s Side (per JoBlo that she thinks a third film is unliley.

“I highly doubt it, at this point,” Applegate said. “Now that (Adam) McKay has got some Oscars on his shelf I don’t know if we’re going to go back and revisit Anchorman.”

McKay directed both of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and the 2013 sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. He has since gone on to direct The Big Short and Vice. Both films earned him Oscar nominations for direction and screenplay, with McKay winning the statuette for writing The Big Short.

“No. We really had no idea,” Applegate said when asked if she knew Anchorman would be such a hit. “That was [Adam] McKay’s first movie that he directed and Will had not starred in anything since SNL, so no one really knew what was going to happen.”

She went on to say about a possible third film, “I would never say never, though. Honestly, working with those boys is the highlight of my life. My boys were the most genuine, incredible, respectful, just … talented group of dudes.”
