Creed II’s Florian Munteanu Joins Eli Roth’s Borderlands As Krieg

Eli Roth has found his Krieg for the upcoming Borderlands movie, and it’s Creed II alum Florian Munteanu. It was announced today that Munteanu, who played Viktor Drago in the boxing sequel, will take on the role of of the character in the upcoming adaptation of the Gearbox Software and 2K game.

Krieg is one of the playable characters in Borderlands 2 and is game’s Psycho class character. Abused by his mother as a child for being a weakling, Krieg grew to great strength before he was captured by Hyperion and subjected to Dr. Benedict’s experiments to create Psychos. He eventually encounters Tiny Tina who becomes his ward.

Munteanu joins a cast that includes Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Jack Black as Claptrap, Kevin Hart as an ex-soldier turned mercenary, and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina.

“Florian brings real humanity and multiple layers to a character who on the surface seems totally insane and brutally savage,” Roth said in a statement. “Krieg was by far the most difficult role to cast, and Florian brought him to life and grounded him in a way that I didn’t know was possible. He’s going to be a brilliant Krieg and will fit in perfectly with our incredible cast.”
