Colin Farrell’s role in The Batman is reportedly that of The Penguin, and a former Penguin in Danny DeVito is fully supportive of that idea. DeVito, who played the role of Oswald Cobblepot in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, was speaking with Fandango to promote Jumanji: The Next Level and was asked what he thought about Farrell playing the role of the Gotham villain.

“I think it’s a great thing because Penguin is a great part,” DeVito said. “Oswald Cobblepot is many, many layers. It’s a very, very difficult task, but I think like many people have played King Lear or Hamlet or anything, I don’t think Oswald should be any different. I think everybody should get a crack at him. I think Colin is a terrific actor and I can’t wait to see the twists and turns.”

Farrell is reportedly set to co-star alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard in a role that is believed to be Two-Face. Matt Reeves is directing the noir-driven take on the comic book icon, which is set for a June 25th, 2021 release date.
